Fisherman’s Hut, 1960
Description
A small and atmospheric vintage coastal painting, full of weathered charm. A fisherman’s hut sits close to the water’s edge, with soft blue-grey sea and sky behind it and dark moody brushwork giving the piece a wonderfully aged, salt-air feeling.
Despite its petite size, this painting has a strong presence. The surface has visible texture and painterly brushwork, with muted blues, greys, creams and deep red-brown details. It is set in a timeworn cream and gilt-toned frame, which adds beautifully to its character and gives it that collected, found-over-time quality.
The reverse is inscribed “Fisherman’s Hut, Whitstable, 1960” and appears to be signed H. R. Smith. These details have not been independently verified, so the piece is sold as a decorative vintage original artwork, chosen for its mood, texture and sense of place.
A lovely small piece for a gallery wall, shelf, hallway or quiet corner, especially beautiful layered with bolder Kitty McCall prints, where its muted coastal tones can bring contrast, depth and a little story.
